Muriel Watts

Asheville Muriel Dewey Watts, 92, of 318 Brickyard Road, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the NC State Veterans Home. A native of Pardee, VA, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1962. He retired in 1982 from Southern Railway following 41 years of service and was a US Army WWII veteran, having served in the European Theatre. He loved gardening and the outdoors and was an avid collector of knives, stamps, coins and had built and elaborate model railroad which was a representation of his birthplace. Mr. Watts was a son of the late Mitchell Elvert Watts and Margaret Elizabeth Barrett Watts. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene Watts; grandson, Sean Watts and sisters, Shirley Wagner and Donna Wagner. Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Alice Louise Herron Watts; children, Don Watts (Fran) of Youngsville, Sharon Fretz (Ray) of Perkasie, PA, Steve Watts of Asheville, Barbara Epps (Talmadge) of Campobello, SC and Janet Truett (Michael) of Asheville; grandchildren, Andrew Watts (Janeen), Greg Cressman, Suzanne Senkiewicz (Todd), Lori Cressman, Mason Truett and Jessica Truett; great grandchildren, Holly, Ty and Chase Senkiewicz; sisters, Hattie Blake of Stockbridge, GA and Betty Keesee (Joe) of Big Stone Gap, VA; brother, Richard Carl Watts (Lena) of Pembroke Pines, FL and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Joy Lambert officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the NC National Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
