Morris Austin

November 20, 1922 — April 3, 2016

Asheville Morris Clyde Austin, 93, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Aston Park Heath Care Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Austin had worked for both Asheville Steel and Dave Steel until retirement. He was a member of Aaron Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Austin loved to garden, sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors. He also loved woodworking. Not only did he make the pulpit for the WKJV studio, but made many small wooden crosses that he shared with everyone. Mr. Austin was the son of the late Clyde Euford and Jenny Clemmons Austin, and the husband of the late Frances Powell Austin. He was also preceded in death by two sons: David ONeal Austin and James Dennis Austin; sisters: Margaret Jackson and Betty Crane; one grandchild, three great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild. Surviving are his children: Morris Charlie Austin and wife Joyce, Sandra Ingle, and Ronnie Austin and wife Annette; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 11 great, great-grandchildren; sisters: Juanita Calloway and Carolyn Turbyfill; brothers: Donald, Ben and Carlton Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Aaron Baptist Church, 266 View Street, Asheville, with the Rev. Josh Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church.
