Mildred Grace Brown Spain

September 26, 1921 — October 11, 2004

Asheville, NC - Mildred Grace Brown Spain, daughter of the late James Henry Brown and Bessie Smith Brown, died Monday, October 11, 2004 at the Aston Park Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.R. Spain and her brothers, Norman, Gene and Robert Bud Brown. Mildred, Mimi to her friends and family members, was born on September 26, 1921. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was a member of Enka Baptist Church, a homemaker and mother. She taught her children, Thomas Spain of West Asheville, Larry Spain and his wife Patricia Rix Spain of Hickory and Carolyn F. Spain of Asheville more than she realized and more than we imagined as her children, especially in regards to the beauty of nature. She was always closer to her God along forest trails and streams when hiking or camping, which was often. In addition to her three children, she is survived by her sister in law, Edith Brown, brother, Carroll Brown and wife Virginia and several nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to the superb quality care given to Mildred by the nursing, administrative and support staff of Aston Park Health Care. The family will receive friends Friday, October 15, 2004 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30 P.M. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Riverside Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Mildred and others afflicted with this illness are asked to make memorials to the Aston Park Health Care Alzheimers Unit, 380 Brevard Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.
