Mike Wilkes

Asheville Michael James Mike Wilkes, 59, of 50 Riceville Road, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center in Panama City, FL. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 2012 from the Charles George VA Medical Center and served in the US Coast Guard. Mr. Wilkes was the son of the late Plummer James Wilkes and Lola Melinda Buckner Wilkes. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary James Wilkes. Surviving are his sisters, Jeannette Wilkes Guthrie and Marcella Wilkes Lipe both of Asheville and Marcia Dean Wilkes King and husband Raymond of Swannanoa and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 28, 2015 at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:40 Monday at the funeral home.
