Candler Michael Stepp Mickey Allen, 72, of 9 Dixon Terrace was welcomed to Heaven Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. Mickey was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired in 2000 from the Buncombe County Sheriffs Department Detention Center and was operations manager of EDACO. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church where he had served as an assistant Sunday School Director and choir member. He was a member of the Gideons - West Asheville Camp, a member of Blackmer Masonic Lodge #170 where he was a Scottish Rite Mason, having served as Past Master, a member of the Land Of The Sky Shrine Club, the Oasis Shriners Temple and formerly served as a promoter for Asheville Speedway and spent twenty-five years working with the American Cancer Society - Buncombe County Unit. Mr. Allen was the son of the late James Kermit Allen and Harriett Faye Stepp Allen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, David Allen and aunt, Jeanette Gwaltney. Surviving are his wife, Judy Lewis-Allen of the home; father and mother-in-law, Rev. Claude and Mrs. Valarie Surrett of Candler; daughter, Kimberly Brazille (Wayne) of Raleigh; grandson, Matthew Wayne Brazille; granddaughter, Morgan Nicole Brazille; sister, Margie Yelton (Dwight) of West Asheville; step son, Josh Lewis (Kelia) of Arden; step daughter, Megan Morgan (Phillip) of Candler; step grandchildren, Addison, Hailey, Lauren, Milo and David; aunt, Myrtle Stepp of Woodfin; uncle, Richard Dick Stepp (Peggy) of Virginia. Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Claude Surrett and Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 P.M. Friday at the funeral home with the Buncombe County Sheriffs Office Honor Guard in attendance.
