Michael Ferguson

August 15, 1954 — May 27, 2024

Las Vegas, NV – Michael “Mike” Ferguson, 69, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Centennial Hills Hospital in Las Vegas.


A native of Asheville, he had resided in Las Vegas for the past 20 years. Mr. Ferguson had more than 40 years of extensive experience in the construction industry including field assignments in project management, construction management, industrial maintenance, and general contracting with experience across a broad range of projects. As Project Manager his responsibilities include overall site authority for project safety, quality, cost, and schedule; management of all craft disciplines and support staff; coordination with the design engineering disciplines; interfacing with regulatory agencies and jurisdictional authorities; and developing Owner/Client relations. His job history included extensive knowledge in the disciplines of civil, structural, piping, mechanical, welding technology, electrical, instrumentation and process controls. His project work included grassroots construction (both direct hire and construction management), commissioning, plant shutdowns and turnarounds, and continuing maintenance services. Industries worked include fossil-fueled power generation, petroleum and gas, chemical, optical fiber manufacturing, and cryogenic gases.


Michael had the following degrees: B.S., Forestry, from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee; A.S., Construction Engineering, from the Tennessee State Technical Institute, Knoxville, Tennessee; and an A.S., Welding Technology and Engineering, from the Tennessee State Technical Institute, Knoxville, Tennessee. He also received many awards including: Recipient of The American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC Tennessee) Excellence Award for 2021; Engineering and Design for the Cumberland Fossil Plant Wastewater Treatment Facility; Recipient of the Combined Cycle Journal's Best Practices Award for Design 2010, Harry Allen Generating Station, Las Vegas, Nevada; Recipient of the Combined Cycle Journal's Combined Cycle Project of the Year for 2008, Tracy Generating Station, Reno, Nevada; Recipient of NV Energy's President's Safety Award for over five million safe work hours managed without a lost time accident; Recipient of the 2000 UECI Project of

the Year, Corning Core Project, Wilmington, North Carolina; and Recipient of the Mack Hoffman Safety Award for Zero Recordable Injuries on five projects from 1998-2003.


Michael was a son of the late Roy Wright Ferguson and Dorothy Mae Rice Ferguson.


Those left to cherish his memory are, Susan Carter - The love of his life; children: Kristin Harlow of Dayton, OH, Matthew Carter and wife Amber of Asheville, and Jeremy Carter and wife Angela of Lenoir; grandchildren: Kathryn Smith of Dayton, OH, Joshua Smith of Dayton, OH, Sydney Carter of Asheville, Brandy “Alex” Carter of Marion, Rachel Carter of Lenoir, and Ryan Carter of Lenoir; great-grandchildren: Jaydin Carter, and Braydin Carter of Lenoir; Sister, Susan Ferguson; brother, David Ferguson; nieces: Andrea Ferguson and husband Bobby Norton, and Megan Katsch; great-niece, Madison Norton Ferguson; Aunts: Sally Lovingood, and Ruth Reynolds; uncle, Gary Rice; and many cousins, extended family, and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Lewis officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


The family will receive friends from 1 till 2 PM Saturday prior to services at the funeral home.
