Michael "Chris" Butler

Asheville – Michael “Chris” Butler, 42, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Chris was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. His career in teaching began as a teacher, working his way up to Principal. He was currently employed with the North Hampton County School Central Office, and he was close to finishing and receiving his Doctorate in Education from UNC Greensboro. He is survived by his parents, Mike Butler and Myra Lynn Butler of Asheville; sisters: Michelle Butler and husband Robert Herrin, and Amanda Greenwood all of Asheville; nieces and nephews: Brandon, Haley, Ashlyn, Willow, and Hope; and aunts: Sandra and Joy. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 PM on Monday, October 18, 2021, in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 till 3:30 PM on Monday prior to services at the funeral home.
