Maye Crowder

December 9, 1915 — April 20, 2018

Asheville Maye Crowder, 102, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, April 20, 2018. She was born December 9, 1915 to Lee and Minnie McIntosh Crowder and lived all her life in the Woodfin Community of Buncombe County. She fought the good fight, she finished the race, and above all, she was faithful to her Lord to the very end. She renewed her strength, soared like the eagles, and ran (Seeing clearly and with perfect hearing) as she entered the gates of Heaven. Maye was devoted to her churches (Riverside Baptist, birth-1991 and Newbridge Baptist, 1991-present). She was an active member, as a Sunday School teacher/member, GA leader, WMU member, and always a member of the choir. She loved her church family and prayed for them daily. She loved to sing and could still remember and sing hymns she had learned from childhood. Her laughter, songs and sharp memory will be greatly missed. She was a blessing to all and her final years at Emerald Ridge Care Center provided her a mission field as she shared her faith in actions, word, and songs to all that came near her. Thanks to the devoted workers at Emerald Ridge and CarePartners Hospice who gave Maye sweet, compassionate care in her last years. Maye was honored with Memorial Mission Hospitals first Goodwill Ambassador of the Month in December, 1971. At that time, she had worked at the hospital for 15 years as a messenger where she came in contact with many patients, visitors, and employees on a daily basis (a blessing to all). Maye was preceded in death, along with her parents, by a sister, Julia Crowder Howser and brothers, William Glenn Crowder and Earnest Frank Crowder. She is survived by a niece, Barbara Crowder Taylor of Corbin, KY and several great nieces and nephews and their extended families. The Celebration of Mayes Life will be held at 2 PM Monday, April 23, 2018 at Newbridge Baptist Church with Pastor Clark E. Henderson, Rev. Lee Roy Denton & Rev. Wesley Pike. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Cary Adkins, Guarry Rogers, Kevin Rice, Bruce Greene, Mark Crowder, Randy Roberson & Rick Roberson. Honorary pallbearers will be: Ed Bryson & Bernard Metcalf. Maye requested that memorials be made to Newbridge Baptist Church-Beth Anderson Family Life Center Fund, 199 Elkwood Ave, Asheville, NC 28804, CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or a mission of your choice. Mayes desire for you all was for you to Only Believe.
