Mary Shook Pruitt

Asheville Mary Elizabeth Shook Pruitt, of 1 Hickory Tree Road, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House in Flat Rock. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Pruitt was the daughter of the late Dwight Walter and Lillian Elizabeth Sloop Shook, and the wife of the late Paul Pruitt. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Shook. Surviving are her children: Cindy Wright, Janet Fox, Larry Pruitt, Virginia Cannon, and Phillip Shook; sister, Janette Turner; brother, Billy Shook; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Swannanoa, with the Rev. Steven Ragan and Rev. Frank Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
