Mary Frances Ballew Fortner

Weaverville - Mary Frances Ballew Fortner, 73, 0f 156 Mundy Cove Road, died Thursday August 23, 2001 at her residence. A life long resident of Buncombe County, she was a member of Union Valley Freewill Baptist Church and had retired from Vanderbilt Shirt Company. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Connie Ballew and wife of the late Robert Calvin Fortner. Surviving are her daughters, Hester Ann Holder of the home, Polly and Billy Hyatt of Weaverville and Nancy and Tim Branch of Black Mountain; sisters, Geneva Ballew of Weaverville and Eva Mae Hunter of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, William Ballew of Asheville; grandchildren, Dereck Hyatt, Briana and Brian Branch. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Jarvis and Marvin Ponder officiating. Burial will be at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home.
