Mary Elizabeth "Toni" Coates

Barnardsville - Mary Elizabeth Toni Fleming Coates, 81, of 2645 Riverside Dr., Trenton, MI, formerly of 393 Paint Fork Rd., Barnardsville, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 after an extended illness. Born in Pikeville, KY, she had lived most of her life in Detroit, MI before returning to Buncombe County in 1972. She retired from Shaw Industries in 1983. Mrs. Coates was the daughter of the late George Washington Fleming and Laura MullIins Fleming and was the wife of the late Marion Coates. Surviving are her son, Bill Coates of Grosse Ile, MI; daughters, Faye Grooms of Gibraltar, MI, Norma Oldenburg of Taylor, MI, Phyllis Sarazin of Grosse Ile, MI, Linda Moruzzi of Wayandotte, MI, and Martha DeBruhl of Weaverville; several brothers and sisters; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Larry Coates and Gary Coates officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.
