Mary Elizabeth Stewart

ASHEVILLE - Mary Elizabeth Parham Stewart, formerly of 55 Massey Road, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Pisgah Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. Stewart was a retired clerk with SH Kress and K-Mart. She attended Asheville-Biltmore College, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Sunshine Club. Mrs. Stewart was the daughter of the late Lon and Elizabeth Gantt Parham, and the wife of the late Billy Stewart. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Surviving are her children: Deborah Corn of Fairview, Keith Stewart of Asheville, and Pam Smathers and husband Sam of Leicester; special daughter, Kay Smith of Asheville; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Sprinkle and Rev. Mark Chase officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
