Mary Elizabeth Higgins

Asheville - Mary Elizabeth Higgins, 83, of 76 Elkmont Dr. died Saturday September 8, 2001 at St. Josephs Hospital. A native of Avery County she had lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was the owner and operator of Marys Cafe and was of the Presbyterian faith. She was the daughter of the late Mable Smith Blalock and wife of the late Jesse Higgins. Surviving are her sons, Sam Blalock, Sr. and wife Jeannie and David Blalock all of Asheville; sisters, Mildred Presnell of Pineola, NC, Linda Ollis of Licklog, NC and Nina McBride of Mocksville, NC; brothers, Jack, Ray and Knox Smith all of Pineola, NC and Kenneth Smith of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Sharon Reynolds, Sammy Blalock, Jr. and Stephen Blalock and four great grandchildren. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at New Salem Cemetery with the Rev. Eugene Dodd officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
