Martin Ray "Marty" Green

Columbus - Martin Marty Ray Green, 67, of 369 John Weaver Road, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at his residence, after a period of declining health. Mr. Green was born on July 3, 1937 in Providence KY, and was the son of the late Clarence M. Green and Mary Alice Elingburg. He was also the step-son of the late James L. Elingburg. He was a 20 year veteran of the US Marine Corps and served two terms in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the military, he attended Oklahoma Ferrier School. He then returned to Western North Carolina and became a well known and respected ferrier. With his love and compassion for horses, he took great pride in training them and teaching individuals to ride and show them. Surviving are his sisters: Betty Dotson and husband Stanley of Fairview and Sharon Rice and husband Jerry of Leicester; nieces: Pamela Dotson, Shari Rice and Kayla Rice; and nephews: Steven Rice and Eric Dotson. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. H.D. Houck officiating. Burial Will be in Shepherd Memorial Park, with graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M Saturday at the funeral home.
