Martha Rice Reed

Asheville Martha Lee Rice Reed, 88, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She retired from Southern Bell as a telephone operator following 36 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Reed was the daughter of the late Charles Lankford Rice and Alice Blazer Rice and wife of the late Arville Reed. She was also preceded in death by brothers, William F. Rice and Willard S. Rice. Surviving are her sons, Larry Rice and Charles Dowdy and wife Lisa; granddaughters, Jennifer Rice and Makaila Dowdy; grandsons, Michael Rice and Chase Dowdy; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 4 PM Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Dotson officiating. The family will receive friends following services at the funeral home.
