Martha Harris Grooms

February 15, 1936 — January 20, 2014

Martha Harris Grooms, 77, of Candler, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. She fought a good fight, lived life to the fullest and is now rejoicing in the presence of Jesus. A native and life long resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Eugene and Mary Emma Revis Hendrix. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Jimmy Harris; sisters: Cora Bell Richardson, Sarah Fish; and brother, Richard Hendrix. Surviving are her children: Sheila Patton, Michael Harris and his wife Janice, Ricky Harris; sisters: Betty Brown, Becky Floyd and her husband Fred; brothers: Ernest Hendrix and his wife Tulla, David Hendrix and his wife Anita; brother-in-law, Harry Fish; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday at Pole Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will follow at Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00- 9:00 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The Harris family would like to send a special Thank You to the staff of John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, friends at Hospice Treasures, Dr. Nathan William and staff, the music ministry of Jay Brown, and Pole Creek Baptist Church family and music ministry.
