Marjorie Hensley Grooms

Asheville, NC / Erwin & Limestone, TN – Marjorie Hensley Grooms, 98, gained her heavenly wings on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. She is now with her husband, many family members, and her Heavenly Father.

“My mother was and is the perfect example of a Christian woman. She has always made God (and me) proud.”

She was a native of Madison County, NC, but resided in Buncombe County most of her life. She was a member of Deaverview Baptist Church in Asheville, NC. She worked as a supervisor at American Enka for many years before deciding to be a fulltime wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrison William Grooms; brother, Willard Hensley and his wife Lena; sisters: Alda Cole and her husband Ernest, Sammy Hensley, Clara Branton and her husband George, Rose Morgan and her husband Bill; and granddaughter, Tiffany Scott.

Surviving are her daughter, Kim Grooms-Hoyle and husband Alvin; granddaughter, Stephanie Cuddy; grandsons: Jordan, Tayvin, and Hunter; stepson, Brent Hoyle (Jennie); stepdaughter, Kimberly Ayala (Miguel), and their children, grandson, Lukas Hoyle; two very special nieces, Cathy Lee (Rick), and Edith Shaft (Gary); and several nieces, nephews, and beloved relatives and friends who love her dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Carson Moseley officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Larry Grooms, Randy Grooms, Brent Hoyle, Gary Surrett, Gary Shaft, and Tim Capps.

The family will receive friends from 12 till 1 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Special thank you to Alex and the staff of Center on Aging in Erwin, TN and to Amedisys for their hospice care. My mother was loved and cared for by them just as if she were family.
