Candler - Marie West Brown, of 6 Ola Drive, died Tuesday July 23, 2002 at her residence after a long illness from cancer. She was born on November 30, 1930 in Swain County, NC. She had lived most of her life in Buncombe County and was preceded in death by a son, George Randall Brown who died February 11, 2002. Mrs. Brown had retired from Beaufort County Hospital. Washington, NC where she was Director of Volunteer Services, co-founder and chairman of the annual Lights of Love fund raising program and was co-founder and chairman of the Lights of Love Hospital Foundation. She was a member of Washington Chapter #7, Order of the Eastern Star and was an active member of Pole Creek Baptist Church where she taught the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Joseph Randall Brown of the home; sons, Joseph Richard Brown of Candler, Robert Harold Brown of Plymouth, NC and Bruce Douglas Brown of Fayetteville, NC; granddaughters, Terresa (Terri) of Alexandria, VA and Annie Beth of Washington, NC; grandsons, Jerry of Washington, NC and Patrick of Gulfport, MS and several nieces and nephews.. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Pole Creek Baptist Church with Rev. G.W. Jameson and Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will be in Snow Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to: Pole Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.
