Marie Rice

May 26, 1926 — November 22, 2012

Asheville Marie Silver Rice, 86, of 56 Goldview Road, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Brian Center of Weaverville. A native of Madison County, she had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life and was a graduate of Weaverville High School and of Blantons Business College. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church since 1943 where, along with her husband, served as Custodian for 15 years and was a Sunday School Teacher and faithful member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. Mrs. Rice was the daughter of the late Diston and Vertie Marie Fisher Silver and the wife of Clifford H. Rice who died March 13, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Linda Franklin and Darlene Rice; grandson, Darrell Edwards and brothers, John and Wayne Silver. Surviving are her daughters, Patsy Edwards and husband Ray of Asheville and Tina Laughridge and husband John of Marion; sons, James Rice and wife Teresa, Tim Rice and wife Mary and Stacey Rice all of Asheville; son-in-law, Tony Franklin of Alexander; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Edwards, Scott and Jason Franklin, Todd Laughridge, Miles, Andy and Thomas Rice and Cameron Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyson Edwards, Jase Peterson and Chase Faircloth. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 PM Sunday at the church.
