Mack “Mini Mack” Edward Penland, 81, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at his home while surrounded by his family.
A native of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Ralph Edward Penland and Arsula Pressley Penland. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: John Phillip Penland, Dixie Franks, Fraces Ray, and Ann Ledford.
Mack worked for may years as a truck driver where he came to be known as “Mini Mack” both on and off the CB radio. He was also a member of the Teamsters. In addition to his love of the road, he deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren and would always put his family’s needs before his own. He enjoyed woodworking and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Mary Elizabeth Lowe Penland; son, Derrick Edward Penland and wife Shannon; daughter, Denise Wallin and husband Gary; grandchildren: Kylie Powers and husband Trevor, Jacob Penland and wife Elizabeth, Jarrett Penland, Chase Wallin, and Chloe Wallin; great-granddaughters: Emersyn Penland, and Lily Powers; siblings: Walter Penland and wife Joy, Margaret Thomas, and JR Penland; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 7, 2025, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Military Funeral Honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 10 am till 10:45 am on Monday at the funeral home immediately before the service.
Pallbearers will be Derrick Penland, Gary Wallin, Jacob Penland, Jarrett Penland, Chase Wallin, and Bill Solesbee.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of CarePartners for their exceptional care and compassion expressed to Mack and his family.
