M. Sgt. William Neal Mitchell

Asheville Master Sergeant William Neal Mitchell (Ret.), 53, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 16, 2010 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Hot Springs, AK, Mr. Mitchell had resided in Buncombe County for over ten years. He retired from the US Army as an MP with 23 years of service, and was currently employed with the Charles George VA Medical Center as an Eligibility Clerk. He loved serving his country as well as his brothers in arms. He was all things to all of us: beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, and friend to all. Mr. Mitchell was the son of Sherlene Gibbs Mitchell and the late Huey M. Mitchell. In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Vivian Cassada Mitchell; daughter, Vicki Lorena Gaddy; grandson, Jeremiah Kingston Gaddy, sister, Dana Lang; uncle, Zane Gibbs; and two nieces. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Charles George VA Medical Center, with Chaplain Garland Vance officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the home.
