Lucille M. Haney

September 7, 1921 — August 16, 2015

Alexander Helen Lucille Meadows Haney, 93, of Alexander, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. Haney was formerly employed with Square D, and with French Broad Elementary School, where she served as a Teachers Aide and on the lunchroom staff. She was a lifelong member of French Broad Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Haney was the daughter of the late Roy Clyde and Dessie Mae Hagan Meadows. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Denver Tony Haney, who passed away March 22, 2010; daughter, Brenda Laney; and daughter-in-law, Linda Haney. Surviving are her son, Rev. Dean Haney; grandchildren: Chris Laney (Lisa), Steven Laney (Virginia), Sarah Shelton (Matthew), and Aaron Haney (Chelsey); great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Reagan, Ava, Evan, Ean, and Eli; sisters: Nell Haney (Everette) and Cathern Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at French Broad Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Malone and Rev. Gary Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 9:00 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of her son, Rev. Dean Haney. Memorial donations may be made to the French Broad Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 122, Alexander, NC 28701.
