Louis B. Rice

Asheville - Louis B. Rice, 71, of 163 Carrier Street, died Tuesday October 8, 2002 at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. A native of Madison County. He had resided in Buncombe County for 50 years. He was former owner and operator of Rice Roofing Company and was an U.S. Marine Corp Veteran. Mr. Rice was the husband of the late Nell Phillips Rice who died September 13, 1984. He was the son of the late Lola Rice Sumner and was also preceded in death by his step-father, Burl Sumner. Surviving are his son, Richard Rice and wife, Janice of Asheville; grandaughters, Vickie West, Cheryl Sammons and Christy Crigger; five great grandchildren; half-sisters, Shelby Jean Witherow and Glenda Ellis both of Dalton, Ga.; his companion, Barbara Callahan Rice of the home; step-sons, Darryl Callahan of Asheville and DeWayne Callahan of Barnardsville; step-daughter, Joyce Kilvourne of Bartow, FL. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Stoy Lankford officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday at funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of son, Richard Rice, 19 Frisbee Rd., Asheville.
