Lorraine Sherlin

Asheville – Nancy Lorraine Penley Sherlin, 74, of Asheville, went to her heavenly home on Friday, October 8, 2021. Lorraine was a pillar of her community at Trinity Baptist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. She devoted herself to service at Trinity through her thoughtful teaching of Bible study classes and her diligent work in the church kitchen. She also served as the Church Clerk from 1988-1995. Every day, Lorraine devoted time to prayer and studying scripture; her friends, family and church-family knew they could always come to her for prayer and guidance. Lorraine asked to be remembered as follows: “She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and tried to be faithful.” Lorraine’s family and friends will remember her compassion, generosity, and humility. Lorraine is survived by her granddaughter, Jessica West and her husband, Daniel West; her sister, Louise Penley Fowler and her husband, Doug Fowler; and her son-in-law Terry Green and his wife Lesia Green. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gardner Penley and Clara Jo Rice Penley; her husband, Donald Edward Sherlin; her daughters Heather Michelle Sherlin and Kimberly Sherlin Green; and her sister Patricia Ramsey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Trinity Baptist Church (note: Strength For Living Support Group) or the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 PM Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Trinity Baptist Church, with Rev. Winston Parrish, Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr. and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:15 PM Wednesday prior to services at the church. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Green Hills Cemetery. Masks are required and must be always worn properly. As an additional health precaution, the family has requested minimal physical contact at this time.
