Loretta Myers Tiller

September 11, 1920 — April 28, 2002

Alexander - Loretta Myers Tiller, 81, of 484 Alexander Road, died Sunday April 28, 2002 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. A native of Chattanooga, Tn., she was raised in Winston-Salem where she resided until moving to Asheville in 1940. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed her flower garden. Mrs. Tiller was the oldest member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. For over 30 years she had formerly taught the Beginners Sunday School Class at Erwin Hills and while at Patton Avenue and West Asheville Baptist Churches She was a daughter of the late Charles Myers and Bertha Melton Myers Rose. Surviving are her husband, Joel Hurdas Tiller, withwhom they were married December 12, 1941, of the home; daughter, Bet Long and husband, Bobby of Wilmington; sister, Deanie Penland of Longwood, Fl.; brothers, Charles Myers of Greeneville, Tn. and Paul Myers of Evans, Ga.; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs Dr. John T. Tiller and Marty Connor officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Mark Tiller, Danny Randall, John Edwards, Terry Sitton, Sidney Thomas and Jason Thomas serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O.
