Lois Rice

Weaverville - Lois Virginia Jones Rice, 93, passed away Thursday January 21, 2010 at the Madison Manor after a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a member and former Sunday School teacher at Locust Grove Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Horace Edward and Sally Brown Jones and the wife of the late Ottis Robert Rice, Sr. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Boyd and Sherman Rice. Surviving are her sons, Charles Raymond Rice and wife Ruby of Weaverville and Robert Rice and wife Deborah of Leicester; daughter, Gloria Shook and husband Dewey of Weaverville; two granddaughters she raised as her own, Cecilia Briggs and Cynthia Bryant; six other grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Locust Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Ben Whitmire, Harry Culbertson and Lanny Cobb officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the church.
