Lester Carter

Fairburn, Georgia - Joseph Lester Carter, 97, formerly of 14 Cooper Blvd, Asheville died Thursday, December 12, 2002 at the Fairburn Health Care Center. A native of Democrate he had resided in Buncombe County since 1907. He retired in 1971 from Home Insulation and was formerly employed with Eckerds Drug Store as a salesman. Mr. Carter was a member of Temple Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, former S.S. Class Teacher and member of the Mens Bible Class. He was also a charter member formerly of Grace Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Soloman Judson and Jo Alice Chambers Carter and the husband of Thelma Vasthi Stepp Carter who died January 13, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ed, Elmer, Bill, Charlie and Worthen Carter. Surviving are his daughter, Julia Anne Harris of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughter, Deborah Anne Harris of Atlanta and grandson, Bruce Ronald Harris of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Bray officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
