Leonard Woodrow Hawkins

Candler - Leonard Woodrow Hawkins of Candler passed away peacefully Saturday - March 12, 2005 at St. Josephs Hospital after a brief illness. Born April 12, 1917, he was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was the youngest of ten children of the late B.G. Bid Hawkins and Lilly Snelson Hawkins. Leonard was retired from American Enka with 39 years of service and Wachovia Bank with 6 years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed the beauty of nature in watching and seeing Gods beauty come to life each spring and grow to maturity in his garden. Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Blanche Greene Hawkins of whom he was her care giver for the last 2 years; daughter, Carol Robbins of Hendersonville; sons, Bobby Hawkins and wife Edna of Asheville and Grady Hawkins and wife Doris of Hendersonville; sister, Carrie Mae Ratcliff; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Ken Lewis and Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
