Candler - Lee Roy Ashe, 59, of 36 Propest Road, died Friday November 1, 2002 at Mountain Area Hospice following a period of declining health. A native of Jackson County. He had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was formerly employed with American Enka Corp. after 20 years of service, a member of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians and was an U.S. Airforce Veteran. He was a son of the late Frank Shirley and Martha Jane Locust Ashe. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Ashe and Bob Ashe; sisters, Irma Lee Stamey and Margie Ashe. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Louise Honeycutt Ashe of the home; daughter, MeLinda Ashe Burress of Candler; son, Marvin Leroy Ashe and wife Mauri of Pisgah Forrest; sister, Evelyn Smith of Charlotte; brother, James Ashe of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren, Brandon, Jeniffer, Alyssa, Grayson and Zachary; sister-in-law, Billie Marlowe and husband, Eddie of Fontana, NC and brother-in-law, Maurice Honeycutt of Asheville. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Tim Griggs officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. Pallbearers will be Wes McFee, Ray Burnette, Tom Stamey, Mike Ramsey, Marty Standridge and Randy Blankenship.
