Lawrence Carol Rice

Asheville - Lawrence Carol Rice, 74, of 84 School Road, died Friday March 8, 2002 at St. Josephs Hospital following a period of declining health. He was a son of the late Charlie Jay and Bernice Anders Rice and a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. Mr. Rice served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War I I . Surviving are his daughters, Marie Holcombe and husband, Hal of Clifton, VA, Martha Christopher and husband, Richard of Candler, Kay Hornaday and husband, Richard of Simpsonville, SC and Marilyn Mercer and husband, Edward of Fletcher; son, C. James Rice and wife, Harriett of Durham, and their mother, Ruby K. Rice of Fletcher; sisters, Beatrice Robinson of Asheville and Grace Honeycutt of Weaverville; brothers, Denny Rice, Robert Rice and Howard Rice all of Asheville and Vaughn Rice of Raleigh; grandchildren, Larry, Charlie, Erin, Joseph, Stephanie, Mitchell, Rachel, Amelia and Reese; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Dodd officiating. His family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
