Larry Penley

November 26, 1952 — January 13, 2022

Asheville – Larry Allen Penley, 69, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at his home. A native of Henderson County and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a Medical Supply Technician at the Charles George VA Medical Center for 23 years, attended Lee Edwards High School and was a member of Words of Life Tabernacle. He also was a Vietnam US Navy veteran and served on the USS Garcia (D-40) Destroyer Escort, protecting the JFK Aircraft Carrier. Mr. Penley was a son of the late Lathrn “Lace” McKinley Penley and Evelyn Louise Banks Penley and was also preceded in death by his sister, Judy Ann Hollier. Surviving are his brother, Dennis Gerald Penley and wife, Sandra of Candler and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Words of Life Tabernacle, 815 Glenn Bridge Rd, Arden, with Pastor Carl Bishop and Richard Cole officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Thursday prior to services at the church. Burial will be at 12 Noon Friday, January 21, 2022 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with military honors to be conducted by the US Navy Honor Team.
