Larry Wayne Gipe, born on October 20, 1947, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and community service. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary Yoke Gipe and B.L. Gipe, and his brother, Bob Gipe.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, JoAnn Gipe, and his two sons, Jason (Alice) and JD (Becky). He cherished his five grandchildren: Knox, Samuel, Hannah, Anna Kate, and Mary Beth, and the time spent with them was among his most treasured memories.
Larry's dedication to his work, country, and community was exemplary. His family is proud of his service in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was employed by numerous organizations throughout his life, often juggling multiple jobs simultaneously to provide for his family. His tenure at Vaughn and Melton (now known as JMT) spanned over 25 years, a period he held in great affection. Additionally, Larry volunteered for 30 years in the Hominy Valley Recreation Association in baseball and basketball, fulfilling roles from coaching to administration with unwavering enthusiasm.
Known for his candid opinions and love of spirited debates, those who truly knew Larry understood that his gruff exterior masked a kind-hearted teddy bear who wanted the best for everyone around him. His tireless efforts to help others reach their full potential will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
