Kaye Mathews

Asheville Kaye Johnson Mathews, 76, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Polk County, Mrs. Mathews had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She retired from the Asheville ABC Board following 37 years of service. She enjoyed sewing and traveling, and loved her grandchildren immensely. Mrs. Mathews was the daughter of the late David and Autense McIntyre Johnson. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Sam Mathews; children: Felicia Hyder, David Plemmons, Jeff Plemmons and wife Angela, and Brandon Mathews; grandchildren: Alexis Kay Mathews, Eli Jack Mathews, A.J. Plemmons, and Ethan Plemmons; sister, Deborah Balmes; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 7, 2018 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
