FAIRVIEW - KATIE BEATRICE WHITAKER, 70, OF 376 GARREN CREEK ROAD DIED MONDAY MAY 21, 2001 AT MOUNTAIN AREA HOSPICE SOLACE CENTER. A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY, SHE HAD WORKED FOR SEVERAL TEXTILE MANUFACTURERS IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF FAIRVIEW SHARON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WHERE SHE SERVED ON THE ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE UNITED METHODIST WOMENS ASSOCIATION. SHE WAS A DAUGHTER OF THE LATE NATHAN BOYD AND PEACHIE FAYE TURNER EARLEY AND THE WIFE OF THE LATE EDWARD OSBORNE WHITAKER. SURVIVING ARE HER DAUGHTER, SUSIE COX AND HUSBAND BILL OF ARDEN; SON, WINFRED WHITAKER AND WIFE SANDY OF FAIRVIEW; BROTHER, GEORGE EARLEY AND WIFE ELAINE OF SWANNANOA FIVE GRANDCHILDREN; THREE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND SPECIAL FRIENDS BETTY WHITAKER AND RUBY FLYNN. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 1:00 P.M. THURSDAY AT FAIRVIEW SHARON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WITH THE REVS. GLENDA BRAMLET AND H.D. HOUCK OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN THE OLD SHARON CHURCH CEMETERY. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS 7 TO 9:00 P.M. WEDNESDAY AT ANDERS-RICE FUNERAL HOME AND AT OTHER TIMES AT THE HOME.
