Kathleen Garren

Arden - Kathleen Laster Garren, 85, of Arden, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 at her home. A lifelong member of Buncombe County, she owned and operated her own beauty shop for over 40 years. She was a charter member of Asheville Family Church/Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Garren was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Myrtle West Laster. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William F. Garren, who passed away March 3, 1998; and her brother, Harold William Laster. Surviving are her daughters: Linda Robinson and husband Larry and Sharon Merrill and husband Jeffrey; grandchildren: Lisa, Sean, Charles and Sabrina; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Banks. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday at the Asheville Family Church/Church of God of Prophecy, with the Rev. Rolf Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:30 PM Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Place at Asheville Family Church/Church of God of Prophecy, 530 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC 28806.
