Asheville - Kathleen Barrett Pridgen, 95, formerly of 614 Buena Vista Dr., Hendersonville died Saturday, January 18, 2002 at Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center after a long illness. A native of Buncombe County, she was a member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher of the Lydia Class and was retired from the VA Medical Center, Oteen, after 30 years of service. She was the daughter of the late James Festus and Lula Monteith Barrett and was the wife of the late Robert Wright Pridgen who died in 1971. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Barrett Peacock and Geraldine Barrett Mays. Surviving are her sons, Robert Wright Pridgen, Jr. of Asheville, Richard Allen Pridgen and wife Dale of Kernersville, and James Luther Pridgen and wife Agnes of Hendersonville; sister, Jamie Barrett Brown of Greensboro; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Melton officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center, who gave her much loving care.
