Asheville June Penley Fox, better known as Moma June, born to James Everette and Donnie Brigman Penley of Weaverville, left this temporary life from her home in West Asheville in the wee hours of May 10, 2016 at the age of 88. Shes gone to live in her eternal home with her parents; her husband, Forrest Weaver Fox; her brother, Charles Penley; and her daughter-in-law, Leta Fox, who got there before her. Her heart wanted to stay with her remaining five children: Anthony Steven Fox and wife Donna, Michael Weaver Fox, Christon Kevin Fox, Kerry Mark Fox, and Beverly Hughes and husband Phillip Hughes, Sr; her grandchildren: Nicholaus, Stephanie, Tracy, Timothy, Elizabeth, Justin, Natalie, Andrea, and Phillip; sister, Blanche Hall; and six great-grandchildren, but her body was just too tired. Everyone affectionately called her Moma June and rightfully so; she had a mothers love for more than just her own. One Christmas, she opened her two bedroom, one bath home as a temporary haven for a family of siblings that had been turned out of their own home, bringing the total headcount that Christmas to 13. Even from her jobs at Postal Accounts, McCarley and Company, Lions Club Industries for the Blind, and Value Way, they called her Moma June. Along with the motherly love, she possessed the freedom to say what needed to be said to help you focus on what really meant in life. It was obvious earthly possessions meant little to her while relationships meant everything. She was transparent and honest, qualities we all cherished. Knowing what meant more to her than anything in life, we want to publicly say Thank You to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for making the journey into eternity to be with Him and her family possible. If you knew her and want to see her again, but are not sure you will, we will say what she would have said, You know what to do! And if you dont just ask us because she made sure we did! Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Kirk and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 3:00 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her favorite local charity, Sweetwater Youth Ranch, 155 Ramsey Road, Asheville, NC 28806, which was founded by her daughter and son-in-law.
