Julia Teeter Cox

Asheville Julia Ruth Cox, 75, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Mrs. Cox was born Dec. 1, 1941, in St. Petersburg, FL. She was a daughter of the late Fred Wilson Teeter and Ruth Phillips Teeter. She resided in Asheville most of her life. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Cox who died in 2006. Mrs. Cox attended Lee H. Edwards High School, now Asheville High and graduated in 1960. She attended Mars Hill College from 1960-1964, graduating in the first senior class at the college obtaining a BA degree in Music. Mrs. Cox resided in Nashville, TN from 1968-77 and was employed with 1st Tennessee Bank. She taught music privately, substituted in the Asheville City School system, and was a volunteer with the Land-of-Sky Regional Council primarily working with the Red Cross. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Marla Cox Christie, and a granddaughter, Kayla Nicole Christie of Hickory. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held at 3PM Sunday, February 26, 2017 at West Asheville Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Stan Welch and Dr. Dan Lunsford officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mars Hill University, James R.
