Judy Swayngim Morris

Judy Swayngim Morris (January 28, 1943- March 22, 2024) of Asheville, NC was a loving friend and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Swayngim and Betty Kathleen Watkins of Swannanoa, NC. She leaves behind her long-time best friend, Mack Lawing of Leicester and her three children: Chip Morris (Jo Ann) of Pensacola, FL; Andrea Dalton (Mark) of Pensacola, FL; and Sandusky Parris (Carson) of Asheville. Judy also leaves seven grandchildren: Lindsay Morris Stewart (Jon) of Lewisville, NC; Chadd Alexander (Nikki) of Jacksonville, FL; Colby Dalton (Andrea) of Tokyo, Japan; Madison Dalton of Asheville; Peyton Dalton of Asheville; and Loy and Sabine Parris of Asheville. She had four great-grandchildren: Grace, Jackson, Lily, and Oakley, all of Lewisville, NC; an additional great grandchild is expected in August of this year.

Judy was well known to her neighbors, and around town from her postal routes as a letter carrier. She was proud to be Asheville’s first “Lady Mailman,” something she reminisced fondly about long after retiring from the position. She also loved square dancing and traveling, and volunteering with the Asheville Police Department. Judy loved to laugh, was quick with a quip, and could giggle in light of almost any situation. She was a patient and steadfast companion; she kept up with friends and would jump to help out when needed. She was an early member of Lakey Gap Presbyterian Church in Black Mountain and found a new home church in Asheville at Trinity Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on April 6th at Trinity Baptist Church (216 Shelburne Road, Asheville), the family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family is accepting gift cards to Ruths’ Chris Steakhouse (that’s a joke, send whatever you want).
