Juanita Rice Shanley

Asheville Juanita Rice Shanley, 65, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and resident most of her life of Buncombe County, she retired in 2014 as an Administrator for WNC Regional Air Quality Agency. She was raised up being a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and has been a member of Trinity Baptist Church for the past 13 years, where she was an assistant in the Childrens Ministry and actively involved with the Teen Ministry. She was a 1970 graduate of North Buncombe High School. Mrs. Shanley was a daughter of the late Julius Hardwick Rice and Nedra Wade Rice. Surviving are her husband whom she married September 15, 1984, Gerard Paul Gerry Shanley of the home; children, Kevin Michael Shanley (Jill) of Dublin, Ireland and Erin Michelle Shanley of Asheville; grandchildren, Ava Shanley and Matthew Shanley of Dublin, Ireland; sisters, Peggy McConnell (William) of Jonesborough, TN and Livia Hine (John) of Arden; brother, Arthur Rice (Tammy) of Sevierville, TN; several nieces and nephews and family friend, Angie Bulgarelli of Detroit, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr. and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 PM Sunday at the church.
