Asheville – Juanita “Granny” Austin Calloway, 90, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the Greens at Weaverville.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County she was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church and employed for many years with T.C. Smith Drug Company.
She was a daughter of the late Clyde "Pa" Euford Austin and Jennie "Ma" Adeline Clemmons Austin and the wife of Harold Edward Calloway who died February 2, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her children, Linda Jones and David Calloway, brothers, Morris Austin and wife, Frances, Ben Austin and Donald Austin, sisters, Margaret Jackson and husband, Dewey and Betty Crane and husband, Pete and brother-in-law, Glonnie Turbyfill.
Surviving are her children, Steve Calloway, Danny Calloway (Linda) and Pam Cordell (John), son in law, Roy Lee Jones, daughter in law, Lynn DeLoi, daughter in love, Rene McKinney; 13 grandchildren (with whom that Granny and Papaw loved dearly and said many times if they had known they were so much fun they would have had them first), 17 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, sister, Carolyn Turbyfill, sister in law, Irma Austin and brother, Carlton Austin (Claudia).
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, September 8, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Boone officiating. The burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45 pm Friday prior to the services at the funeral home.
