Arden – Joyce Jeannette Hopson Markley, 101, went home to be with the Lord on, Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the Elizabeth House. Mrs. Markley was born on June 8, 1920, in El Paso, TX and was raised and lived in Mexico City and Laredo, TX until moving to Buncombe County in 1968. She was a daughter of the late Ben West Hopson and Hannah Louise Davies Hopson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Markley, III who passed away on April 27, 2010; son, James “Jimmy” Monroe Markley, IV who passed away on May 14, 2016; and brothers: Fred Hopson, and Ben Hopson. Mrs. Markley retired in 1968 and then worked as the Church Receptionist of Crossroads Assembly where she was a member since 1974. She was also an accomplished Ballerina. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Jean Villarreal and husband Nick of Laredo, TX; grandson, James Nicandro Villarreal of Laredo, TX; and her church family. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Crossroads Assembly with Rev. Dr. Mike Brown, Rev. Glynn Bachelor, Rev. Wade Zachary, and Rev. Dr. Isaac Owolabi officiating. A private Entombment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Markley’s memory to: Crossroads Assembly, Benevolence Fund, 20 South Bear Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
