Leicester - Joseph Teat J.T. Chandler, 74, of 775 Piney Knob Rd. died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Mission St. Joseph Health System. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1959. He was a former member of Deaverview Baptist Church and was a retired U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of the Fleet Reserve Assoc., Morocco Branch #158, the AMVETS Asheville Post #5, the D.A.V. of Asheville, and was a life member of V.F.W. Post #891. Mr. Chandler was the son of the late Branson and Gertrude Norton Chandler. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Florence Inez Henderson Chandler, brother, Floyd Chandler, and step sons, Joey Wood and David Knapp. Surviving are his wife, Helen Knapp Chandler of the home; sons, Edward Joseph Chandler and Paul Richard Chandler both of Asheville; daughter, Sallie McCall of Asheville; step children, Porter Knapp of Asheville, Dorothy Brockwell of Leicester, and Lucinda Metcalf of Arden; sisters, Berline Bullman of Marshall and Maudie Gosnell of Cleveland, OH; brother, M.V. Chandler of Hot Springs; grandchildren, Maressa McCall and Ryne McCall; step grandchildren; Jennifer and Melissa Wood, Rachel, Kristy, and Robert Brockwell, Michelle Keener, Avery Knapp, Brandon, Amber, and Shawn Metcalf. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Brockwell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.
