Asheville - Joseph Mueller Meserve, 83, of 9 Chadwick Wade Dr. died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville. A native of Greenville, IL, he was a retired Captain from the U.S. Air Force, serving in WW II and Korea. He was the former Chief of the Climatic Analysis Section of the National Weather Record Center of Asheville. Mr. Meserve was a member of the First Christian Church, Asheville, was a Scottish Rite Mason, and was a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple. He was a long time volunteer with Mission St. Joseph Health System and was a former member of the Barnardsville Fire Department. He was the son of the late Clarence Arthur and Florence Hannah Mueller Meserve and was the husband of the late Bettye Josephine Gauntt Meserve who died in 1987. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Arthur Meserve. Surviving are his daughter, Judy Moulton and husband Ken of Weaverville; sons, Stevan F. Meserve and wife Beth of Sterling, VA and Richard P. Meserve and wife Sheila of Memphis, TN; sisters, Selma Sweeney of Humboldt, IL and Norma Kent of Anaheim, CA; grandchildren, Joseph Edward Myers, Robert James Myers, Sarah Teo, Roy Dean Quada, Tamsen Cox, Russ & Matt Meserve, Richard Meserve, Danielle Heller, Laura Brewster; 6 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
