John Edwin Williams, III

John Edwin Williams, III, 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at his residence in Asheville, NC.

A native of Poolsville, Maryland, he was a son of the late John Edwin Williams, II and Pauline Gilpin Williams.

John attended Erwin Hills Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army as an Army Medic during the Vietnam War. He later also served in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, John worked for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. until his retirement.

Surviving are his brothers: David Williams, Stephen Williams, and Christopher Greenleaf.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Andy McDevitt officiating. Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
