John Turner "J.T." Barber

March 25, 1941 — October 25, 2022

Fletcher – John Turner "J.T." Barber, 81, passed away Tuesday October 25, 2022 surrounded by love. J.T. was born on March 25,1941 in Asheville NC. He was a 1961 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin where he met his high school sweetheart Gloria of 61 years. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his friends and family who were always entertained by his hilarious sense of humor.

Mr. Barber was the Owner and Operator of WNC Tile Company.

He was a son of the late Norman Barber and Pauline Russ King and also preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Ann Ayers Barber and grandson, Jonathan Barber.

Surviving are his son, Johnny Lee Barber (Karen), grandson, Jared Barber and great grandson, Jackson Barber all of Asheville and a number of siblings, nieces, nephews and his special caregiver, Mandi Banks.

J.T. was beloved by everyone who ever met him; a fantastic father, a great husband and friend to all walks of life. An avid sports fan, gardener and in his younger years one heck of a dance partner with his best friends Johnny and Elaine.

During his time with us he made it a point to always help anyone in need. He touched the lives of so many people across multiple generations. His love transformed the lives of everyone he encountered.

He was an unrelenting advocate for being who you are and doing what you love.

J.T. was always determined no matter what the challenge or request that he gave his all to ensure he exceeded all expectations whether for himself or others. He brought a bounty of beauty to everything he did with unbound love. Anyone who knows J.T. knows his family and work family meant everything to him.

For us, he really is that pebble thrown into a lake as the lives he touches act as a ripple that extend far beyond just us. He is now at peace with the love of his life Gloria, and that is one fun party reunited. We aren't sure how we are going to navigate life without him; however, as J.T. would say " It’s business as usual"

As per his request no services are planned at this time.
