Weaverville John Stuart Ray, 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Emerald Ridge Rehab and Care Center. A native of Greene County, TN, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He retired as a General Contractor with Merchants Construction Company and Price-Ray Construction Company, was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville and was a US Army Korean War veteran. He loved to hunt, fish and work in his wood shop. Mr. Ray was the son of the late Prince Bismark Ray and Effie Shelton Ray. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his wife whom he married June 2, 1951, Lettie Sheppard Ray of the home; daughter, Nancy Ray Morgan and husband Joe of Asheville; son, John Stuart Ray, Jr. and wife Geri of Weaverville; grandchildren, Jolie Sigmon and husband Justin of Arden and Jonathan Morgan and wife Morgan of Raleigh; great grandchildren, Ella Sigmon and Ethan Sigmon and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Skip Gillikin and Rev. Al Harrell officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday following services at the funeral home and at other times, the family will be at the home of Joe and Nancy Morgan. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
