Fletcher – John Milton Therrell, 77, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Pardee Hospital. A native of Candor, NC, Mr. Therrell had resided in Buncombe County since 2003. He was the former Vice Principal of Ft. Campbell High School and was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Therrell was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church, where he served as co-teacher of the Word and Faith Sunday School Class and was a Mason and Shriner. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and just generally being outdoors. He was also a member of “Healing Waters,” a group designed to help handicapped veterans enjoy the sport of fly-fishing. Mr. Therrell was the son of the late Lewis Milton and Queen Lucas Therrell. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Surviving are his wife, Katherine Elizabeth Brown Therrell; son, John Patrick Therrell; daughter, Christina Lynn Smith; grandchildren: Landon Therrell, Clayton Therrell, Garrett Smith, and Taylor Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, January 28 at Fletcher First Baptist Church, with Pastor Roy Waldroup officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Friday at the church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 29 at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America at www.pva.org.
