John Lewis Marlowe

October 5, 1926 — June 8, 2002

Fairview - John Lewis Marlowe, 75, of 6 Spring Mountain Rd. died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Mission St. Joseph Health Care System following a long illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a member, Deacon, and former choir director of Spring Mountain Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WW II, and was retired from the Asheville-Citizen Times after 38 years of service. Mr. Marlowe was the son of the late Fred Walter and Mabel Wilson Marlowe and was also preceded in death by a brother, Burgin Marlowe. Surviving are his wife of 53 1/2 years, Floye Betty Penley Marlowe of the home; sons, John Michael Marlowe and wife Karen, and David Lee Marlowe and wife Crystal, both of Fairview; sisters, Eva Miller and husband Joe, Evelyn Merrill and husband Bernise, and Jo Ann Dalton and husband Mack all of Fairview; grandchildren, Amber, Jonathan, Brandon, and Jeffery who lovingly knew him as GrandJohn; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Spring Mountain Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeffrey Burchette, J.C. Wilson, and Charlie Sprouse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
