John Julius Williams

June 5, 1920 — March 19, 2003

Asheville - John Julius Williams, 82, of Asheville died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1938. He was a graduate of Asheville Biltmore College and attended U.N.C.A. Mr. Williams retired in 1990 after 35 years as owner and President of White and Williams Heating and Air Conditioning Company, Inc., was a former partner of Sun Heating Supplies and was founder and co-owner of the former T.V. Rental of Asheville. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville and a member of the New Covenant Sunday School Class, was a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446, Charter member and organizer of the N.C. Heating & Air Conditioning Contractors Association, member of the V.F.W. Post #891, former member of the West Asheville Business Association and was a WW I I veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was the son of the late Frank Roe and Hazel McCracken Williams. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Sara Bealmear Williams; brothers, Larry Livingston Williams and Frank R. Williams, Jr. and sister, Frances Lorena Camp. Surviving are his wife, Linda Bartlett Williams of the home; step son, David S. Blankenship of Black Mountain; father and mother in law, Earl and Katherine Bartlett of Black Mountain; sister in law, Lucille Reed of Asheville and Brother in law, Wayne Bartlett and wife, Beth of Black Mountain. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Asheville with the Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team. Pallbearers will be Bruce Fowler, Al Knapp, Rogers Sales, Troy Honaker, Ellis Cannady and Bill Byron. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and at other times will receive friends at the residence. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Asheville, Capital Improvement Fund, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
